David’s PhD focused on Automation bias in electronic prescribing: The effects of over-reliance on clinical decision support in relation to errors, cognitive load and verification. His thesis was accepted on 24 April 2019. A selection of his research outputs can be found here.
Skills
David has particular expertise in health technology assessment and the human-computer interaction with particular focus on decision support systems and human behaviour, decision making errors and patient safety. He is skilled in:
- Designing, conducting and reporting experimental research
- Human factors research
- Statistical analysis and reporting of data including the use of IBM SPSS Statistics
- Preparation of scientific reports, papers and reviews
- Systems thinking methods and system dynamics modelling for understanding the behaviour of complex systems, such as those found within healthcare.

David is a postdoctoral research fellow with interest and expertise in human-computer interaction and how this impacts user behaviour, decision making, task performance and errors. David is interested in developing human-computer interactions which leverage the benefits of technological innovation, whilst ensuring quality outcomes and patient safety.
